The effect of cyclophosphamide on the functional histologic structures of the lymphoid tissue in the adult rats

Abstract
|
|
|
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of cyclophosphamide on the functional histologic structures of spleen, bronchial lymphoid tissue and mesenteric lymph node in adult rats.
The results obtained were as follows.
1. The lymphoid follicles of spleen and mesenteric lymph node became almost totally destroyed in parallel with duration of treatment. There was a reduction of the lymphocyte content in the inner cortex and periarteriolar lymphatic sheath, only following the longer duration of treatment, but marginal zone cells were relatively unaffected.
2. There was no tendency for the lymphoid follicle to recover after injury´ by 3 days after cessation of treatment.
3. There was a only mild reduction of the lymphocyte content in the bronchial lymphoid tissue with no follicles.
